Practical Information

Currency

In Qatar is the Qatari rial.  The Qatari rial is an official national currency and is used only in Qatar. 1 rial is divided into 100 Dirhams. The Qatari rial is tied to the US dollar with a fixed exchange rate. Therefore, 1 rial always equals 0.2747 US dollars.

Voltage

In Qatar, the standard voltage is 240 V, and the frequency is 50 Hz. You can use your electric appliances in Qatar if the standard voltage in your country is between 220 - 240 V (as is in the UK, Europe, Australia, and most of Asia and Africa). This means that you will not need a converter or transformer but just a travel adaptor because Qatar operates on a 240V supply voltage, which is within the 110-240V range that the dual voltage appliance operates on.

Qatar does allow alcohol to be served in hotel bars and licensed restaurants. However, visitors must not carry any alcohol into the country, and drinking in public is prohibited.
